welcome.mov
The
road that led us here, unfortunately, has been everything but smooth.
We ran up against a number of obstacles stemming mostly from
bureaucratic lapses, which only serve to heighten the irony that the very
government agencies which were created to support filmmakers are the very
ones killing them. But these
challenges only gave us the impetus to boldly carry on.
We
continued on despite the odds because we believe in the digital film
movement. We believe that this is just what Philippine cinema needs.
Today’s
digital film tools are empowering new and underground filmmakers to tell the
stories they have been longing to tell, without having to sell their souls.
Even more revolutionary is the promise of digital film technology to
democratize filmmaking. The
time has now come when virtually anybody with a story to tell now has a real
opportunity to express himself through the art of motion picture.
We
have seen many compelling and impressive films by Filipino filmmakers
working beyond the radar of mainstream cinema and we wonder how many more
such films will never be seen on the marquee of a commercial theatre.
Or how many more great movie ideas by rookie film artists will be
thrown away and never see the light of day.
.MOV
is here because we believe there is hope still for Philippine Cinema.
Our aim is to provide a venue where digital storytellers can bring
their personal visions to a wider audience.
And in the process, help unleash new talents who will infuse new
blood into the tired and weary veins of Philippine Cinema.
In
behalf of Filmless Films, we would like to thank all those people who have
helped to make the 1st Philippine Digital Film Festival possible: Our
sponsors; our guests and audiences; and most especially, the filmmakers and
volunteers who unselflessly lent their talents to make .MOV not just another
shelved dream.
Move
on,
