a pilgrim's journal

'A pilgrim's journal' is a digital video diary about a pilgrimage to the major shrines of the Blessed Virgin Mary. At the beginning of the film the pilgrim states that he is in search of the most beautiful painting of a Woman that he has seen. The surface of the painting that he seeks is the tilma of Juan Diego, an Aztec Indian who saw Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico on the 9th, 10th and 12th of december on Tepeyac hill. The pilgrim travels through Europe( Rome, Lourdes, Fatima) following the 'Marian trail' ; going to places of pilgrimage, seeking the miraculous ( like the incorrupt body of St. Bernadette, the miraculous medical cases in Lourdes) places where the Mother of God appeared. The search finally ends in Mexico where he sees the tilma  of Juan Diego and the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe imprinted on it. The festivities of the fiesta of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City is the high point in the film. Aztec dances and colourful celebrations ; these define the devotion of the Mexican people to their Christian Faith. (The pilgrim also 're-discovers' the meaning of life in Mexico City.)
