ramlila
The legend of Lord Rama and his Vanarsena... the story of the demon king with ten heads and a
tale that relates the adventures and misadventures of the exiled prince over
a period of 14 long years...
The story of Lord Rama has
enthralled generation after generation of Indians, awing them with its
account of the struggle between virtue and vice, man and monster. This film
is the result of collaboration between three friends with scant experience
in Digital Video. They come together to make a touching and comic portrayal
of this festival that surely anyone growing up in North India has been part
of at some point in their lives.
The Filmmakers'
Note
The Ramlila has been an
intrinsic part of our childhood memories. In between the hustle bustle in
every nook and corner and at several sprawling grounds, the images from Lord
Rama's life - his childhood, his marriage to Sita, the Bali-Sugriva battle
and so on; but what thrilled us most was what went on behind the scenes -
the 'unseen' was more inviting and fascinating. It was intriguing to watch
Sita, played by a man, sitting off-stage and smoking a bidi, and Ravana
dancing with Rama on a hit Bollywood number. This film is an effort to
relive those moments and bring back those memories.
